The grid of the future will incorporate a higher percentage of renewable energy. Unfortunately these energies have no natural storage mechanism. Thermal storage is the easiest way to restore this critical component of fossil fuel-based energy. One HVAC design option that can be especially effective is ice storage which also allows building operators to power their HVAC system more during cheaper off-peak periods than on-peak daytime periods.
